
INTERNAL ORGANIZER
THE POSITION
We are currently seeking social and economic justice driven individuals to help empower workers in education and child care industries by organizing them. Internal Organizers trains, coaches and develops member-leaders to build power for school employees at their worksite and union-wide.
This position requires long and varied hours, including early morning, evening, and weekend work as necessary. Applicants must possess a vehicle as driving is an important part of the work.

• Experience with labor unions, progressive issue advocacy organizations, community organizations, political campaigns, and/or staff of elected officials is desirable but not necessary
• Read, write and/or speak in Spanish desirable
TYPICAL DUTIES
• Effectively recruit, mentor, coach and develop new leaders
• Train member-leaders to recruit and mobilize new members to participate in the union and attend rallies and meetings
• Create and foster a member-leader communication infrastructure within jurisdiction to support various campaigns
• Effectively recruit and mobilize new members to participate in the union.
• Develop and execute plans for internal organizing, contract and worksite campaigns for issues such as local and state budgets, contract negotiations, health and safety, etc.
• Enforce contracts through organizing and advocacy
• Updates member case information in appropriate databases
• Conduct worksite meetings, informal discipline and grievance meetings (meet and confer) and labor management meetings
• Recruit political volunteers participation in political and lobbying activities
• Prepare and manage work plans, calendars, files, reports and other records
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Committed to the social and economic justice of all working people and strengthening the role of organized labor through work actions, community relations and political activity
• Work long, varied hours including evenings and some weekends
• Pass a criminal and driving background check
• Maintain a valid Driver’s License, current auto insurance, and reliable automobile
• Drive for extended periods of time
• Travel to and from schools, worksites and other locations which may involve stairs
• English grammar and punctuation rules - proficient
• Excellent communication skills
• 1 or 2 years experience as an Organizer in the labor movement or with a community group
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Salaried
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and an excellent benefits package.
