SEIU Local 1021 was founded in 2007 when ten local unions came together in Northern California to form one larger, more powerful union. We are 54,000 strong - organizing and representing public service workers in cities, counties, courts, schools, private non-profits, special districts, public health care, and nursing. LOCATION: Northern California
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the director of the Organizing Director and Organizing Coordinator(s), the Lead Organizer implements the organizing plan of the Local Union. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: directing organizing staff and member organizers on campaigns; providing input to the Organizing Director and Organizing Coordinator(s) in the evaluation of organizing staff; evaluating potential organizing targets; initiating direct contact with organized workers; developing leadership and structure of organizing campaigns; and overseeing the conduct of organizing drives and representation elections.
This is not a 9 to 5 job. Work hours are long and varied and include early morning, evening, and weekend work, and travel (including overnight stays).
SKILLS, APTITUDE, AND COMMITMENT:
EXPERIENCE: Must have at least two (2) years of experience in organizing and leading staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid California driver’s license; must pass a DMV check and have a good driving record; must have auto insurance that covers business driving (minimum coverage of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per incident of bodily injury liability/$50,000 property damage liability, and list SEIU Local 1021 as an “additional insured” or “interested party” in order to trigger notification in the event the policy is cancelled); and must possess an automobile for business use.
Ability to speak Spanish or other languages spoken by large groups of workers is highly valued.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The current salary range is $58,991-$87,635 based on qualifications and experience. There is a competitive and comprehensive benefits package.
