The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is our country’s fastest growing labor union with more than 2 million members. We are on the cutting edge of bettering the lives of low-wage service workers and taking on the larger issues that impact their lives from healthcare to education to immigration.
 

The United Service Workers West (USWW) is comprised of 40,000 property service workers from San Diego to Sacramento. Our union brings together janitors, security officers, residential, stadium, arena and airport workers. **These workers are the heart of our union and through their activism the hope for a more progressive California.
 

**SEIU USWW has a communications position available immediately, based in Oakland.
 

Job Description

Our union is dedicated to changing the way people see immigrants, working people, their unions, and the need for effective government. Towards this goal, the Senior Communicator will develop and implement an innovative communications strategy that builds on an emerging progressive narrative.
 

Working under the supervision of the Strategic Initiatives Director, the Senior Communicator will work with a campaign teams comprised of organizing, political and research staff to develop messages and write and design campaign materials from flyers, to brochures, to social media. The person will be
expected to work closely with our members and to develop ongoing relationships with the media.

Qualifications

• Strong commitment to bettering the lives of working people.
 
• Excellent inter-personal skills and an enthusiastic attitude.
   
• Ability to write punchy, brief materials including media releases and flyers and strategy memos.
   
• Ability to juggle multiple assignments, meet tight deadlines and work in a team environment.
   
• Experience as a communicator for a membership based organization.
   
• Lay-out and design skills; experience taking photos, shooting and editing videos a big plus.
   
• Ability to speak Spanish a big plus.
   
• Must have car and insurance. Car allowance provided.
