The library's popular Tales to Tails program is expanding! There are now times available at 3 of our branch locations: Capitola, Downtown, and Felton. With this literacy program, children can sign up for a private twenty-minute slot to read to an attentive certified therapy dog. Try BookFlix - a Fun, New Reading Program
SCPL has subscribed to a fun, new reading program that you can access from the library or home (requires a library card and PIN)! Scholastic BookFlix pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. This resource for children in grades PreK-3 will help early readers develop and practice essential reading skills. [Read more]

Food Storytimes at Whole Foods in Capitola
KidReach (Youth Services Outreach) is partnering with Whole Foods Market in Capitola to bring storytimes to the community. Storytimes all have a food theme. We started in January with a pizza storytime and pizza snacks from the Whole Foods Pizzeria. February was stories about Chinese food in honor of the Lunar New Year. The next storytime is on Thursday, March 25 at 10 AM. Come celebrate Ireland, hear stories about potatoes, and see and sample the many varieties of potatoes and potato foods. [Read more]
You are Never Too Young for a Library Card
The Santa Cruz Public Libraries have removed the age requirement for receiving a library card. A child of ANY age can now have a little blue card to check out books, movies, and recorded stories….yes, even toddlers! Plan on making a holiday visit to the Library soon to surprise the little one in your family. [Read more]
Family Place at Santa Cruz Public Libraries
Family Place libraries are designed to be comfortable for young children and their adults. Soft toys, bright rugs, inviting seating, and plenty of books for the very young may not sound all that different from the children's room of the past, but they are put together and used deliberately to encourage families to visit their library.
