"What guides us is children's response, their joy in learning to dance, to sing, to live together."
Menuhin was not writing about children's services in public libraries, but he could have been. He could have been writing about children's response and joy in getting ready to read and that is what guides us in delivering READ TO ME services to very young children and their families.
Recognizing the importance of the public library contribution to literacy development in young children 0-5, the Santa Cruz Public Libraries (SCPL) promotes reading readiness with services and programs under the umbrella name, READ TO ME (RTM). For more information, browse the links to the right.
READ TO ME is an essential aspect of SCPL's system youth services. RTM has received support from First 5 Santa Cruz County, SCPL Friends of the Library, and the California State Library's Early Literacy Foundation. SCPL, through RTM, is a member of the national Family Place Network.
