Reading like a wolf eats

Gary Paulsen was a "miserable student" (his own words) who flunked ninth grade and probably would have had trouble graduating from high school, if he hadn't ducked into the library to get warm. A librarian noticed him, asked if he had a library card, and, when Paulsen said no, handed him a card and challenged him to take out a book. One book led to another...and another...
