Wax Reproduction of the Last Supper

The life size wax figures of Jesus and his disciples at the last supper were created by Harry Lisbon, plaster artist, and a team of wax artists from Los Angeles. The figures were created in a converted barn in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and were completed in 1950 after five years of work. The artists used live models to create molds for the figures's hands and faces. The strands of hair for the figures were inserted directly into the wax using a specialized tool, a task which took eight months to complete. The figures were exhibited at several towns and were damaged by the travel. They were then exhibited at the Santa Cruz Art League until 1990.

In August of 1990, the figures were moved to the Santa Cruz Memorial Park and Funeral Home. The figures were restored by Joan Krassow, who repaired the damage to the bodies, re-inserted hair that was falling out, and re-clothed the figures in their original colors. The figures may be viewed by appointment only. Although there is no charge, donations are accepted.
