Photographs of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Area: The New Casino

By October of 1906, Fred Swanton began construction of a new casino designed by local architect, William Weeks. The photo on the right shows the casino under construction, late April-early May 1907.
The new casino opened in June 1907. An inaugural ball was held to celebrate the opening with the John Phillip Sousa Band providing the music. President Theodore Roosevelt sent a congratulatory telegram. The photograph below is believed to date from around 1907.

This post card, postmarked 1909, shows the casino ablaze with lights.
