Library Strategic Plan  Shape the Future of Your Library!

Director's Blog

Two recent Town Halls

SCPL Strategic Plan

We have now held Town Halls in two locations; Branciforte and Capitola. At each meeting the participants were lively, informed and engaged. The notes from each meeting are now posted in the data section of this website. At each meeting, participants were also asked to prioritize with only 4 dots among 18 possible service priorities. The results of each prioritization process are also viewable in the data section.

Many great ideas are emerging with exciting visions for the future. We know we can't do it all but it doesn't hurt to dream. If we don't have an idea of where we want to go, we will never get there.

Plan to join us at one of the upcoming meetings. All meetings start at 7 pm with an opportunity to meet and talk with me from 6:30-7. Meetings are at the branch library unless otherwise noted:
Boulder Creek Thursday October 15 (child care provided)
Garfield Park Wednesday October 21 (Louden Nelson Center)
Live Oak Thursday October 22 (child care provided)
Felton Wednesday October 28 (Felton Community Center)
Central Library Thursday October 29 (child care provided)
Aptos Thursday November 5
La Selva Beach Monday November 9 (La Selva Beach Clubhouse)

I mostly agree with the data results, but I would place "restore morning hours" as my top choice for Branciforte.
I now must make a separate trip to Branciforte in the afternoon rather than combine it with a shopping trip.

I also think Branciforte Library is a lovely building and does not need remodeling.

Re: The Felton Library, I think it's critical to establish a teen center either in the new library or at the old church location which the Verutti Family is making available to the public. We had a teen center a few years ago in Felton and it really helped keep the young people out of trouble. This could have a lot of positive ramifications by involving the kids in public service projects, etc. If the church is not made available for this, then we need to establish a teen area in the new library which is separate from the main area. You can contact me at marthagw@comcast.net to work on this. Thank you.
