Journaling can be a self-empowering and motivating expressive outlet, that forces you to engage with your thoughts by organizing them into words. A journal can act as a welcomed release. This class/group, hosted by Andrew Drinnan, will share the power of keeping a journal with advice, tips, and motivations to get the most out of the experience. The meeting will be held in the small conference room Downtown.

This workshop is designed to provide participants with ideas, feedback, and assistance with their poetry. Dr. David Swanger, SC County's Poet Laureate, will discuss poetics (the theory of poetry) as it relates to the participant's work. Each person attending is asked to bring either a poem they have written or one by another author that they would like to share and explore. Enrollment is limited to 10. The class is now full! First Friday is a free event for enthusiastic Art Goers and an opportunity for our many talented Artists to exhibit and promote their work. This month, join us from 5:30 to 8:00pm to see “Strictly For The Birds,” an exhibit which showcases the remarkable talents of 11 local artists. The range of species depicted in a variety of 2 and 3 dimensional mediums offer art and bird lovers a great way to enjoy the start of spring through indoor bird watching at the Santa Cruz Public Library. "Strictly For The Birds" will be on view at the Downtown Branch from March 30 to June 29.

Like an unexpected spring flower, a journaling class has appeared at the Downtown branch. Andrew Drinnan, a library volunteer, teaches a journaling class every Tuesday, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the first floor conference room at the Downtown branch. "Keeping a journal can be a self-empowering and motivating expressive outlet. Journaling can be a tool for self-awareness. This class/group will share the power of keeping a journal with advice, tips, and motivations to get the most out of yours," says volunteer teacher Andrew Drinnan.
