An Introduction to Researching the Great Wave of German Immigration 1830-1900

The Genealogical Society of Santa Cruz County presents a lecture focusing on the great wave of German immigration from 1830 to 1900. Robert Jackson, PhD will outline the resources available to help narrow the search for your ancestors' places of origin. We'll also touch on the special challenges posed by the spelling of German surnames and place names and by the movable feast of German geography in the 19th century. Finally, we'll glance ahead to the main issues involved in accessing archives and records in Germany. Everyone is welcome to join us for this free event in the Downtown meeting room.

Dr. Swanger is a retired UCSC Professor of Education and Creative Writing. He will be reading his poetry, talking about his creative process, and answering questions. All are welcome. This event is sponsored by the LSB Friends and the Passionate Readers Book Discussion Group.
