Reference USA - Uncovering the Hidden Job Market: Career Search Strategies

Attendees will learn how to use ReferenceUSA as part of their Career Searching Strategy. Included will be information on the importance of having accurate information for applications and resumes, creating engaging cover letters, assembling a network of references and referrers, finding key persons at a business to act as mentors, building datasets of potential employers based on skill set, work history and preferences as well as how to prepare for interviews and interactions through thorough research. Memoir Writing Workshop: Session 2 Drawing Out Your Memories

In collaboration with Willing Suspension Armchair Theater, Santa Cruz Reads presents a very special Banned Books Reader's Theater! An all-star cast of actors, educators, activists, politicians, and writers will read excerpts from banned books. Following the readings, Julie Minnis will lead a Q & A and discussion.
We hope you'll join us for this exciting prelude to our upcoming month-long Community Read series on the frequently banned and challenged "Grapes of Wrath". Santa Cruz Reads is a partnership between the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, and Santa Cruz Writes.

Designed for the patron new to using ReferenceUSA; this hour-long session will cover all the basics of getting started with ReferenceUSA. The training will cover the Four Essentials anyone, particularly anyone new to ReferenceUSA, would want to know in order to be successful using the resource. This is also a great opportunity for current users to learn some new tips, tricks and techniques. Lots of time will be reserved at the end of the session for questions. First Friday

The First Friday Art Tour happens every month, rain or shine throughout Santa Cruz. Founded by the Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Arts, and managed in conjunction with the participating Art venues, First Friday is a free event for enthusiastic Art Goers and an opportunity for our many talented Artists to exhibit and promote their work. This month, Valri Peyser of Scotts Valley Artisans begins her tenure as art curator at the Downtown Branch. Both floors of the building will be hung with wonderful local art. Our opening exhibition features five artists: Kim Brandt, Shawn Butchko, Beverly Martin, Eric Mikkelsen, and Nana Montgomery. We'll also have live music performed by Minor Thirds.
