Journaling can be a self-empowering and motivating expressive outlet, that forces you to engage with your thoughts by organizing them into words. A journal can act as a welcomed release. This class/group, hosted by Andrew Drinnan, will share the power of keeping a journal with advice, tips, and motivations to get the most out of the experience. The meeting will be held in the small conference room Downtown.

Help keep our Read-to-Me kits in good shape so children and their families can check them out and experience the joys of reading together. Each kit contains books, puppets, felt stories, CDs, and other play items that need to be repaired. Tea, cookies, and good company provided! Santa Cruz Genealogy Society offers monthly lectures in the Downtown Branch on the first Thursday of each month from 1-3pm. On April 4th, join us to hear Christine Rose talk about how we interpret historical documents, and how to avoid jumping to erroneous conclusions. Doors open at 12:30pm.

First Friday is a free event for enthusiastic Art Goers and an opportunity for our many talented Artists to exhibit and promote their work. This month, join us from 5:30 to 8:00pm to see “Strictly For The Birds,” an exhibit which showcases the remarkable talents of 11 local artists. The range of species depicted in a variety of 2 and 3 dimensional mediums offer art and bird lovers a great way to enjoy the start of spring through indoor bird watching at the Santa Cruz Public Library. "Strictly For The Birds" will be on view at the Downtown Branch from March 30 to June 29.

Like an unexpected spring flower, a journaling class has appeared at the Downtown branch. Andrew Drinnan, a library volunteer, teaches a journaling class every Tuesday, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the first floor conference room at the Downtown branch. "Keeping a journal can be a self-empowering and motivating expressive outlet. Journaling can be a tool for self-awareness. This class/group will share the power of keeping a journal with advice, tips, and motivations to get the most out of yours," says volunteer teacher Andrew Drinnan.

The Downtown Library Book Discussion Group will read The Crucible by Arthur Miller for its April 18th selection. The group meets every third Thursday at 1pm. All over 18 years old are welcome. Ask at the Reference Desk for the location of the meeting room. Copies of the book are available on request at the Circulation Desk. No need to check it out, just return it at the discussion.
