The Willing Suspension Armchair Theater will present the first of three performances of "Steinbeck's American Dream", comprised of readings from The Grapes of Wrath and other Steinbeck works, at the Aptos Branch of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries.

Project SCOUT offers volunteer income tax assistance and tax counseling for the elderly and volunteer income tax assistance to residence of Santa Cruz County during tax seasons at sites throughout Santa Cruz County. In conjunction with the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, the Santa Cruz Public Libraries are offering free homework assistance at 6 branches. Each Homework Help site is supervised by a California-certified teacher. There is at least one bilingual person at each location. No appointment is necessary. Open to students grade12 and under.

Big Read: Discussion 8 - Exploring Steinbeck's Craft (7:00 PM-8:30 PM)
Location: Aptos Branch
Discussion focuses on themes and character development in The Grapes of Wrath including a discussion of Ma Joad and her impact on the reader. Think about how the new migrants to California during the course of the novel speak for generations of migrants looking for the American Dream. How does Steinbeck turn fact into fiction as he develops characters he meets along the San Joaquin Valley migrant camps. Discussion will be led by Nancy Litvak and Julie Minnis.
