Bringing the Condors Home (6:00 PM-8:00 PM)
Location: Downtown Branch

These amazing animals inspired the creation of the Endangered Species Act of 1973. With the population dropping to an all time low of 22 individuals in 1982, there are now over 400, with more than half of them flying free in California, Arizona and Baja Norte, Mexico. The captive breeding program has slowed as chicks are now being born and raised in the wild, however the species is still struggling for survival in the face of dangers such as lead poisoning. Ventana Wildlife Society (VWS) is the only non-profit in California involved in the restoration of the California condor. Learn about the natural history of this magnificent bird, the California Condor Reintroduction Program and how VWS is involved in the struggle to bring the Condors home.
