• Search Essentials: the basics of ReferenceUSA (9:00 AM-10:00 AM)

  Designed for the patron new to using our database, this hour-long session will cover all the basics of getting started with ReferenceUSA. The training will cover the Four Essentials anyone, particularly anyone new to ReferenceUSA, would want to know in order to be successful using the resource. This is also a great opportunity for current users to learn some new tips, tricks and techniques.Lots of time will be reserved at the end of the session for questions. • Tales to Tails - Boulder Creek (11:30 AM-12:30 PM)
  Location: Boulder Creek Branch
  Trained therapy dogs will be available at the Library to be attentive, non-judgmental reading partners for children reading aloud. Children have individual 20-minute time slots to sit with a dog and read.   Come and join the fun at the Annual Chess Tournament at the Aptos Branch. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers as well as participant medals for all. Light snacks will be served and certificates given to all participants.

• It's Not About the Bully: Family Strategies for Empowerment and Growth (2:00 PM-3:30 PM)

  A series of talks designed to help provide social and personal empowerment strategies for young people and their families to mitigate the effects of bullying. The workshops are hosted by Dr. Yvonne D. Vermillion, PSY. D., LMFT. Sessions take place on the fourth Sunday of the month from January to May 2013.   Data Visualization is the next BIG thing in data. Going beyond static lists of information, ReferenceUSA can help you ‘visualize’ data elements on a map. The ReferenceUSA mapping tools give you a new and powerful way to better understand the landscape.   Like an unexpected spring flower, a journaling class has appeared at the Downtown branch. Andrew Drinnan, a library volunteer, teaches a journaling class every Tuesday, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the first floor conference room at the Downtown branch. "Keeping a journal can be a self-empowering and motivating expressive outlet. Journaling can be a tool for self-awareness. This class/group will share the power of keeping a journal with advice, tips, and motivations to get the most out of yours," says volunteer teacher Andrew Drinnan.

Included will be information on the importance of having accurate information for applications and resumes, creating engaging cover letters, assembling a network of references and referrers, finding key persons at a business to act as mentors, building datasets of potential employers based on skill set, work history and preferences as well as how to prepare for interviews and interactions through thorough research.Attendees will need an internet connection and a phone line to participate.
