NCDL/Overdrive Downloadable Audio Books
As a member of the Northern California Digital Library Consortium, Santa Cruz Public Libraries offers access to over 1,000 OverDrive audio book titles. You can check out, download, and listen to a wide variety of audio books on your PC, PDA or other portable device. Selected titles may also be burned to CD.
Please note: With OverDrive Media Console v3.2, most WMA Audiobooks are iPod-compatible. iTunes for Windows is also required to transfer titles to Apple devices. Digital books are not available for download to Library computers.
You can access these downloadable audio books from the OverDrive/NCDL website by following these steps:
- Find a title that you are interested in by either searching the Library Catalog or browsing the "OverDrive Audio Books" section of the NCDL/OverDrive site
- If the title is not currently checked out by another patron, you will see an "Add to BookBag" link. Click this link to begin the checkout process. If the title is not currently available, you can put your name on the Request List by clicking the "Place a Hold" link.
- During the checkout process you will be prompted to select the name of your library and to enter your library card number.
- Once you have been successfully authenticated, you will be able to download the book to your PC. If this is the first title you have checked out, you will need to download the OverDrive Media Console BEFORE downloading your audio book.
- Listen to the audio book on your PC using the OverDrive Media Console or transfer it to a compatible portable device. The "Plays on" icon next to each title indicates device compatibility. Some titles may also be burned to CD. Titles are checked out for 21 days.
You can find more help and information on the "Digital Library Help" section of the NCDL/OverDrive website.
