Recorded Books/NetLibrary Downloadable Audio Books

Through Santa Cruz Public Libraries' agreement with NetLibrary, you can check out and listen to a wide variety of Recorded Books on your computer or portable device. Digital books are not available for download to Library computers.

Please note: At present, the One Click Media Center only runs on PCs. iPod compatibility from the Media Center on Windows can be accomplished if iTunes is also installed in Windows. Audio books in MP3 format can be played on Macs--but they must be manually moved from the PC to which they were downloaded.

You can access these downloadable Audio Books from NetLibrary, Inc. by following these steps:

  1. When accessing the NetLibrary site for the first time, do so using a link from the SCPL website (such as the one provided below) or catalog. This will allow the account you create to be associated with the Santa Cruz Public Libraries' audio book collection and will give you access to all books included in that collection.
  2. Set up your free account with NetLibrary: Simply click "Create a Free Account" and then follow directions.
  3. Browse or search over 1900 titles available in the Santa Cruz Public Libraries' collection.
  4. Install the NetLibrary Media Center software on your computer (one time only).
  5. Use the Media Center software to download an audio book--either to your PC or directly to a portable device (View a list of supported players). Titles are checked out for 21 days.
  6. Once you have created an account, you can access the SCPL NetLibrary collection and your checked-out audio books anytime by opening the Media Center software on your PC or by connecting directly to the NetLibrary website and logging in. Once you have an account it is no longer necessary to access NetLibrary through the SCPL website.

You can find more help and information on the eAudiobooks section of the NetLibrary website.

Additional technical assistance is also available from NetLibrary by calling (1-800-848-5800 - ext. 1411) or by emailing (support@oclc.org). Phone and email support is available from NetLibrary Monday-Friday from 7:00am-9:00pm Eastern time.
